Review of Makari Oralight Skin Whitening Pills

Oralight Whitening Pills are produced by Makari, leaders in producing skin lightening products for African American SkinSkin lightening pills work from the inside so you are guaranteed a more even result when trying to lighten your skin tone or fade dark marks.  Oralight pills are very popular and highly rated product but just how effective are they?

Makari Oralight Whitening Pills

How Do Skin Lightening Pills Work?

First of all, to decide whether or not Oralight is for you, it’s worth knowing a little bit about how skin lightening pills work.  There are different types of skin lightening pill and the most common type contains glutathione as the active ingredient.  Oralight skin whitening pills do not contain glutathione but rather have bearberry extract (arbutin) as the active ingredient.  It also contains bioflavonoids, Vitamin C and Vitamin E.  The ingredients work together to restrict the formation of pigment in the body so the result is more even than using a topical product.

How Much Does it Cost?

The pack contains 90 capsules and one should be taken with meals two times a day.  Priced at $36.45 for a 45 day supply works out to be roughly $0.80 a day which is quite reasonable although this can add up if you need to buy several packs.  If buying in the UK, however, the cost can be a bit higher.

How Effective is Oralight?

In a word, very! A number of users have reported starting to see results after taking 1 pack whether they are trying to achieve overall lightening or to balance the complexion of different areas of the body. Many more users report results after taking 2 packs and a few have needed to take more than that.

Not only will Oralight pills fade dark marks and even out your skin tone but it also gives your skin a healthy glow thanks to the Vitamin C and Vitamin E but the key here is to use it consistently.

Overall Verdict

Using skin lightening pills instead of a topical product promotes the long term balance of pigment in the body.  If you have several areas of skin that require treatment, Makari Oralight Whitening Pills may be for you! An added bonus is that these pills are reported to help with stretch marks.

Would you recommend Oralight whitening pills for Asian skin?
    Thank you.

  • Anita

Absolutely! Makari will work on any type of melanin-rich skin.

  • Bill

is the pill effects permanent or dose it ware off

  • Anita

Skin lightening treatments are never permanent but they can be long lasting if you continue to protect your skin from the sun. The pills help to regulate the production of pigment and excess pigment will be produced with sun exposure so by limiting this with a high factor sun screen, you’ll make sure your results last.

are these products sold in south africa

  • Anita

There may be local stores in South Africa that stock Makari but if you wish to purchase them online, the Makari website offers international shipping.

  • Tina

Can i use the cream while i am taking the pills?

  • Anita

    Hi Tina,

The two products work by slowing down the production of melanin but they work slightly differently so in theory, yes they could be used at the same time but I’d advise that you try the product one at a time so you can assess the results properly. Your skin is more sensitive to the sun while using skin lightening products so always remember to wear sunscreen – at least SPF 25 is best.

  • matilda

does it w3ork on very very dark skin? will I see any difference

  • Anita

    Hi Matlida,

Makari is specially formulated for melanin-rich skin tones so it will work on very dark skin although you have to bear in mind that this is not going to whiten your skin dramatically by several shades. Makari contains only natural ingredients that safely and gradually lighten the skin tone. If you want faster results, you may want to combine this with another method such as chemical peels. You can speak to your dermatologist about using chemical peels for hyperpigmentation.

  • Shanaaz

    Hi

Do you have to take makari every month for the rest of your life, what will happen if you stop taking the pills?

  • Anita

    Hi Shanaaz,

No skin lightening method is permanent but what they will help with is getting rid of any unusual hyperpigmentation. Once skin lightening pills have removed your hyperpigmentation problems you can stop taking them but be sure to protect your skin from the sun to prevent hyperpigmentation from recurring. Always wear SPF whether on its own or built into your daily moisturiser.

  • Krave

is it ok to use makari with glutathione pills together?

  • Anita

    Hi Krave,

Are you referring to Makari pills? I wouldn’t take two sets of pills at the same time as you won’t know which is working for you. Try them one at a time.

  • Kikelomo

Hi, I am currently using the glycerin, I have a dull and dark complexion with uneven tone, I would like to know if I made a good choice and also if i can use the oralight with the glycerin.

Do they lighten dark knees, elbows, lips and vagina?

  • Bisi

Do they lighten dark knees, elbows, lips and vagina? Because the cream nor the gel/serum does that for me after 4months of using it

  • Alexis Marbreyy

Hey 16 years old and mom told me i can lighteninq my skin up i always see likas papaya soap as a big change and these pills . i just wanna know which one can lighting my skin up about two to three shade not like Sammie Sosa cause it looks awful . i wanna be lighter but not too light .

  • Anita

Yes, a topical treatment can be used in conjuction with the Oralight pills but it makes it more difficult to see which is working for you.

  • Anita

Knees and elbows are often more difficult to lighten so you may also need to use a topical skin lightening cream in these areas. Please also check out our article on intimate skin lightening safely for lightening the skin around the vagina.

  • Anita

2-3 weeks is definitely too short a time to lighten your skin without looking scary. Safe skin lightening is gradual and you can use any of the products mentioned here for that. You may begin to see results in 2-3 weeks such as a more even skin tone, dark marks faded, etc but to see full results may take 2-3 months.

  • Alexis Marbreyy

Thanks anita ! but does likas papaya work on african american skin ?

  • Anita

Yes, Likas Papaya soap generally does work on African American skin or any other skin type but it may or may not work for your particular skin type. All soaps can be drying for the skin so if your skin is very dry, soap may not be the best option, especially for the face. It is very reasonably priced so you can give it a try to see if it works for you.

  • Danielle

Hi Anita. Can Makari Oralight be used with Glutathione for faster result.

  • Anita

Oralight can be used with Glutathione but I prefer to only mix topical with internal e.g. skin lightening cream for specific areas and skin lightening pills but not two sets of skin lightening pills.

  • Anita

Popular skin lightening ingredient hydroquinone has been said to cause cancer although there are no long term studies around this. Hydroquinone is small doses is FDA approved (although not approved in other countries). In any case Makari products do not contain hydroquinone or any other FDA banned ingredients at all.

hi Anita. i have a medium brown skin complexion, but the back of my neck is atleast 3 shades darker than me, & I have un even skin tone, my lower stomach is also darker than my overall complexion.
would this product give me not only lighter skin, but an even skin tone?
If my skin was all an even skin tone, i wouldn’t even mind to make it lighter, I just can’t stand how my skin is so uneven!!
    plz help!!!

  • LilMissy30

    Anita,
the inside of my thighs are very dark; and not to mention my knees , and my elbows. Will that lighten up also? I have tried other products that didn’t almost help.

  • Anita

    Hi LilMissy30,

If you have specific patches of hyperpigmentation, I’d recommend using a topical skin lightening cream. South Beach Skin Lightening Gel is effective for sensitive areas such as the inner thighs.

For dark knees and elbows, check out Makari’s Clarifying Scrubbing Cream.

  • ELissa

    hi Anita,
Could you please tell me if it contains gelatin and what kind of gelatin if it doess since i dont eat pork.
    Thank u in advance

  • Anita

    Hi Elissa,

Makari Oralight does contain gelatin. You’d be better off with a topical skin lightening product so that you can avoid gelatin.

  • Ingo

Hi, could you please advise as to where I could buy this pills in Johannesburg or anywhere around Gauteng.

  • Jerry

Hi Anita i was wondering if the pill will also work for lightening the face area too my whole body is already light fair asian complexion i just purchase the pills on a,azon because of the great reviews i just want my face skin tone to be back to its original color like my whole body like does it get rid of tan?thank you

  • Anita

    Hi Jerry,

The pills will work for overall lightening and evening of the skin tone. If you would like to lighten one area more than another, I would suggest an additional topical treatment for the affected areas.

  • James

Hello Anita! I hope you are well!
I like the idea of Oralight, especially if it helps with stretch marks because I’ve got them from lifting weights and gaining and losing weight but I’m in a bit of a dilemma. I also heard of another Makari product called Repairing and Claryfying Serum, which is said to target dark areas such as knees and elbows (which I really want to target, as well as my whole body) face blemishes etc. I would like to know if I should use this in conjunction with Oralight, or should I use Oralight solely.

PS I have quite dry skin, so if I use Oralight on it’s own, would it be advisible to carry on using a normal moisturiser such as Cocoa Butter?

Sorry, a lot of questions right? Lol I hope you could help me!

  • Keeara

will this be poisonous to the body since you have to take 2 capsules a day ?
Because i heard that you can only take so much bearberry extract!
    Thanks soo much!

  • shar

hello! im wondering that if i take this, would it have an effect on the birth control im on right now?

  • Luvbug

    Hi Anita,
will the oralight work for somebody who has a reaction when they use hydroquinone, given that oralight contains arbutin, which is a derivate of hydroquinone? i’ve been using oralight for about 3 weeks and my skin is getting darker and darker…is that normal? most of the reviews said you have to be patient with it, for at least 2 mths, should i stick with it to see what happens or should i stop using it? thanks.

  • Anita

    Hi Luvbug,

Yes, arbutin is a natural derivative of hydroquinone so it is possible that you may have a reaction if you are allergic to hydroquinone. This is something I’d recommend that you seek advise from your dermatologist on.

Makari Oralight, as well as any other skin lightening product does take time but you should not be getting darker with it. Check out this article of mine on possible reasons that your skin lightening product is not working. Are you using a sunscreen with the product?

  • sonam verma

i m asian , cn i use it ? is it better tn glutathione ? is it save ?? i mean any side effects?

  • Akiko

Maybe people should look this up on Amazon, and read the reviews of people who have used this product… if they gave a bad review they were harassed by the company to remove it by endless emails. Also having a pharmacology degree, I can tell you that derivative or not.. anything in relation to hydroquinone is not safe. Hydroquinone has been outlawed in many countries and the FDA is pushing to ban OTC sales of anything having hydroquinone or having a derivative of hydroquinone in it, as it is believed to have carcinogenic properties. Also many people experience actual darkening of the skin from hydroquinone and it’s derivatives.

I doubt this will be approved and published here (or it will be argued to death even if there is strong research to back up what I’m saying here), as it’s obvious they only want good things said about their product. Everyone should do their research before putting anything into their bodies. Glutamine works and is something that is naturally produced by your body. The side effect of high doses of gluatamine IS the skin whitening effect. But you need other supplements to make gluatmine effective if you are wishing for a lighter complexion.

  • beautifull

whats the side effects? when stop taking pills, does your skin tone go back to the original color?

  • Lisa

This doesn’t work you guys its just a vitamins, it clears up you skin and keeps it soft but it doesnt’t lighten you at all. So if hat’s what you buying it for this is not the product for you.

  • Anita

Makari products is formulated for for all skin tones and all ethnicities. It also doesn’t contain dangerous skin lightening ingredients like hydroquinone and mercury.

  • B2Rachel

I have been using this Oralight for a year and I don’t see any change
I don’t think it is for lightening. I did not just use the Oralight but I bought the whole sets of Makari de Suisse products
The Bodymilk work but it took like 2month/2-4bottle to see any change.
I stopped buying the Bodymilk, so I wanted to try only the Pills(Oralight) but no change. I am thinking of stop taking it because I don’t se any change.

    Hi People !

Oralight seems interesting at first. BUT HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF UVA URSI (BEARBERRY LEAVES) CONVERTING INTO HYDROQUINONE IN THE BODY ?? THIS IS MY ONLY CONCERN REGARDING ORALIGHT.

OBVIOUSLY ORALIGHT BEARBERRY LEAVES (UVA URSI) CONVERTS INTO HYDROQUIONE IN THE BODY AND LIGHTENS THE SKIN PIGMENTATION, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF HYDROQUINONE ON KIDNEYS, LIVER ETC ? I HEARD THAT LONG TERM OF TROPICAL USE OF HYDROQUIONE IS VERY BAD FOR KIDNEYS, LIVER AND NERVOUS SYSTEM, SO IMAGINE TAKING SOME STUF INTERNALLY WHICH CONVERTS INTO HYDROQUINONE. SOUNDS SCARRY TO ME !!

YOU DO YOUR OWN REASERCH AND USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK !

    BYE.
