Are you embarrassed to buy skin lightening products in store because of what people might think? There has always been a stigma surrounding skin whitening and this makes people worried about using such products because of what others may think or the looks you will get when picking them up in a shop.
If you think about it though, why should people see skin whitening as any different from tanning? There is no stigma attached to tanning and many people openly want to have darker skin and spend a lot of time and money trying to achieve this whether they use fake tan or tanning booths. It seems that it is fine when people want to get darker but if you want to get lighter, you instantly have self esteem issues. Should it not just be seen as a personal preference just like dying your hair would be?
Not everyone that uses skin lightening products wants to look like Michael Jackson. In fact, the majority of people that buy skin lightening products use them to treat hyperpigmentation and fade dark marks or blemishes on the skin. When people automatically assume you’re buying these products because you have some kind of self esteem issue, I can understand why so many people are embarrassed to buy these products in store. Fortunately though, there are several products available online for you to purchase in the privacy of your own home. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting an even skin tone and if it is your personal preference to be a couple of shades lighter or darker, there isn’t anything wrong with that either. Just ensure that whatever you do, you do it safely. Avoid dangerous skin lightening ingredients and follow the instructions exactly.
Just as excessive sun tanning can damage your health, there are also some risks with using skin lightening products. The common skin lightening ingredient hydroquinone has been banned in many countries and although still legal in USA, only products containing low concentrations of hydroquinone are available over the counter. There are studies to suggest that prolonged use of hydroquinone can cause cancer. By using skin lightening products with only naturally derived ingredients, you can lighten your complexion without any risk to your health.

Yeah. I don’t get it either. Why do people bash who want to become lighter and not those tanning? Tanning is just as harmful to the skin as whitening (possibly even more harmful because it is literally damaging the skin). I say there’s nothing wrong with trying to look more beautiful as long as you don’t kill yourself overdoing it.
